Romanticism

Romanticism was a broad cultural and philosophical reaction against the rationalism and mechanism of the Enlightenment, emphasising feeling, imagination, nature, and the infinite over reason, utility, and finite analysis. From Schiller and Schlegel to Coleridge and Schopenhauer, Romantic thinkers saw in art and aesthetic experience a mode of access to truth unavailable to scientific understanding.
