Political Realism
Political realism holds that politics is governed by power and interest rather than by moral principles or abstract ideals. Machiavelli's frank analysis of how states are won and held, Hobbes's Leviathan, and twentieth-century theorists such as Hans Morgenthau built a tradition that insists on looking at political life as it is, not as we wish it to be.
