Medieval
Scholasticism
Scholasticism was the method and curriculum of the medieval university, aimed at reconciling Christian theology with the philosophy of Aristotle, newly recovered through Arabic translations. Thinkers like Anselm, Abelard, Aquinas, and Scotus used rigorous logical analysis and formal disputation to address questions of God, being, knowledge, and ethics. It remains the most sustained attempt to unite faith and reason.
