Friedrich Schelling
Idealism
1775–1854 · Modern Philosophy
Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling was a German philosopher and a central figure in the development of German Idealism, moving from close collaboration with Hegel toward an increasingly independent and heterodox system. His philosophy of nature (Naturphilosophie) conceived nature as an unconscious form of mind developing toward self-consciousness in the human spirit — a vision that influenced the Romantic movement and anticipated later ideas in biology and ecology. His later philosophy of mythology and revelation moved toward a more concrete engagement with existence and history.
Nature is visible Spirit; Spirit is invisible Nature.
