School of Thought
Kyoto School
The Kyoto School was a movement of Japanese philosophers centred at Kyoto University in the early twentieth century, founded by Nishida Kitaro. It attempted a genuine dialogue between Eastern Buddhist and Daoist thought and Western philosophy, particularly German Idealism and phenomenology. Nishida's concept of "pure experience" produced a distinctively original philosophical synthesis.
