Hermeneutics
Hermeneutics is the philosophy of interpretation, originally concerned with the correct reading of scripture and classical texts, and transformed by Schleiermacher and Dilthey into a general theory of understanding. Heidegger made it ontological, arguing that understanding is the fundamental structure of human existence. Gadamer's Truth and Method showed that all understanding involves the fusion of the interpreter's horizon with that of the text.
