Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was a Jesuit priest, palaeontologist, and visionary philosopher who attempted to synthesise modern evolutionary science with Christian mysticism. His central concept, the Omega Point, envisioned all of creation evolving toward a final state of cosmic consciousness and divine union — a process he named the "noosphere."
His major work The Phenomenon of Man was suppressed by Church authorities during his lifetime and published posthumously in 1955. Teilhard argued that evolution is not merely biological but spiritual — that matter itself is animated by a drive toward greater complexity and consciousness. Dismissed by some scientists and theologians alike, he became enormously influential in the 1960s and has seen a sustained revival in philosophy of religion and ecology.
