Sun Yat-sen
Chinese
1866–1925 · Contemporary
Sun Yat-sen was a Chinese revolutionary, political philosopher, and statesman who led the overthrow of the Qing dynasty. His Three Principles of the People — nationalism, democracy, and people's livelihood — became the ideological foundation of modern Chinese republican thought.
Sun drew on Western democratic theory, socialism, and traditional Chinese concepts to articulate a political vision suited to China's specific historical situation. Though he died before seeing his vision fully realised, he is venerated as the "Father of the Nation" in both the People's Republic and the Republic of China.
To understand is hard. Once one understands, action is easy.
