Marxism
1818–1883 · Modern Philosophy
Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist, and revolutionary whose analysis of capitalism, class struggle, and historical change reshaped intellectual and political life worldwide. Combining Hegelian dialectics with a materialist account of history, Marx argued that the economic base of any society determines its political and cultural superstructure, and that capitalism contains internal contradictions — most fundamentally the exploitation of labour — that must eventually produce its own overthrow.
The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it.
