Paracelsus
Natural Philosophy
1493–1541 · Early Modern
Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, known as Paracelsus, was a Swiss-German alchemist, physician, and natural philosopher who challenged the authority of Galen and the classical medical tradition with a new, experiment-based approach to medicine. He held that the human body is a microcosm mirroring the macrocosm of the universe, and that disease arises from chemical imbalances that must be treated with targeted chemical remedies — a precursor to modern pharmacology.
The dose makes the poison.
